SMART Hospital Solutions
In this digital age, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is integral in streamlining services, and healthcare provision is no exception. eHealth was defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2005 as the “ICT of health and health-related fields,” referring to the combination of ICT systems with healthcare provision in a wide range of applications. The use of information technology in healthcare will reduce human error, improve clinical outcomes, improve practice efficiency, improve patient safety, and facilitate care coordination and data
tracking over time.
A key example of an eHealth concept is the SMART Hospital. TAMC will enable CGMH to share its success story in digitized and smart hospital management, driven by smart AI technology.
SMART hospital solutions will streamline various aspects of the healthcare provision workflow, from vital sign measurement and medical record management to medicine dispensing and administration.
Examples of SMART hospital solutions include
- iWard solutions: Aids medical personnel such as nursing staff in assigning shifts and managing the patients under their care. These solutions enable patients to communicate their needs quickly, improve treatment efficiency, and increase overall patient and staff satisfaction.
- Intelligent Outpatient System: This includes technology such as self-check-in terminals and queue status display terminals, which provide an innovative solution to reduce administration workloads and provide higher quality diagnoses and treatments.
The diagram below illustrates the integration of ICT in the operation of SMART Hospitals:

Access to Malaysian market
TAMC’s existence will provide a much-needed boost to Malaysia’s medical system, with the state-of-the-art healthcare infrastructure adding to the country’s digital transformation. These technologies will not only innovate in the medical sector but their efficiency and cost-effectiveness will be indispensable in other sectors as well, particularly strategic data management and foresight technologies.
As a joint venture, TAMC will become a two-way street, offering CGMH benefits as well. TAMC will grant CGMH access to the Malaysian market, for instance, through the country’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI). With its goal to drive Malaysia towards becoming a high-tech nation through science, technology, innovation, and the economy, MOSTI is keen to support and collaborate with TAMC, as TAMC’s establishment opens doors for the Malaysian healthcare system to access CGMH’s application of integrated IT systems, robotics, and artificial intelligence in the medical field.
MOSTI is familiar with technology registration, regulation, and importation, as well as the wide network of medical device distributorship and retail in Malaysia. Via the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC), players in the Malaysian market such as MOSTI will be able to assist Taiwanese collaborators with the promotion and commercialization of trailblazing new technologies, the transfer of technologies, and the commercialization of research and development (R&D) products.
Access to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital
As the largest private hospital in Taiwan, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH) consists of ten branches from Northern to Southern Taiwan, offering more than 11,000 beds and delivering comprehensive and holistic healthcare services, from maternity and infant care to specialist elderly care.
Under Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, Chang Gung has expanded its cooperation opportunities with Malaysia, seeking win-win outcomes and building greater regional prosperity since 2018. TAMC has been established to further strive towards this objective, as the culmination of CGMH’s previous collaborations with Malaysian institutions.
Opening doors for deeper collaboration and knowledge sharing, TAMC will become a bridge for healthcare providers in Penang and other parts of Malaysia to gain access to Taiwan’s medical device, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries. We will have access to CGMH’s valuable homegrown medical devices and solutions, such as ways of building more comprehensive dialysis systems. TAMC will also allow our local healthcare practitioners and patients to access specialist medical expertise from CGMH’s arsenal of physicians.
